Job Title
Accounts Assistant (Shadowing Senior Accountant) – Philippines‑Based, Remote
About Us
We are a UK‑based professional services firm located in the City of London, providing tax, legal and accountancy support to individuals and businesses with activities in both the UK and overseas. The firm has grown significantly over the past five years and is expected to continue expanding, so this is an excellent time to join an ambitious and growing practice. We are currently looking to hire four (4) Accounts Assistants as we build a dedicated remote team in the Philippines to support our UK operations.
Role Overview
We are seeking Philippines‑based Accounts Assistants to work fully remotely and to work closely with and shadow our Senior Accountant in London. The role is hands‑on and varied, covering day‑to‑day compliance work and providing exposure to cross‑border matters. This position is ideal for someone with at least 3 years’ experience in an accountancy practice who wants to develop quickly with close mentoring, clear structure and professional study support. All work will be performed exclusively under UK accounting and tax rules, together with relevant international accounting and tax principles where cross‑border issues arise. You will receive training and ongoing guidance to help you apply UK and international standards correctly in your day‑to‑day work.
Key Responsibilities – Working under the guidance of our Senior Accountant, you will:
Perform day‑to‑day bookkeeping for a portfolio of UK and international clients using cloud‑based accounting software.
Prepare and process VAT returns, including reconciliations and checking for basic errors before submission.
Prepare and maintain trial balances and supporting schedules ready for review by the Senior Accountant.
Assist in preparing working papers for year‑end accounts and tax filings.
Help with basic Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) reporting and reconciliations (training provided as needed).
Provide general support to the team, including maintaining tidy records, assisting with client onboarding, and basic AML/KYC checks.
About You – Skills, Experience & Character
At least 3 years’ experience in an accountancy practice (Philippines, UK or other international jurisdiction).
Some exposure to bookkeeping, VAT, payroll and/or self‑assessment or equivalent personal tax work is highly desirable.
AAT / ACCA / CIMA student, Philippine CPA, or foreign‑qualified / equivalent – we are open on exam status, but you must bring solid foundations and a strong willingness to learn UK systems and standards.
Technical Skills
Strong Excel skills (including basic use of pivot tables).
Comfortable using accounting and tax software; experience with Xero, QuickBooks Online, TaxCalc or similar systems is an advantage.
Good general IT skills and confidence with cloud‑based tools (e.g. Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, document management platforms).
Able to work securely via remote server access and follow IT/security protocols.
Communication, Character & Mindset
Excellent communication skills – clear, professional written English and confident, polite spoken communication with colleagues and (where required) clients.
Strong drafting skills – able to prepare tidy emails, notes and schedules that are easy to understand.
Self‑confidence with humility – comfortable asking questions, taking feedback and speaking up when something is unclear.
Good character and firm spirit – honest, reliable, respectful and able to fit into a professional yet warm team culture.
Proactive and keen to grow – you want to be pushed, guided and “taken to the right spot” in your career, and you are prepared to put the work in.
Organised and disciplined – able to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines and follow through on commitments.
A genuine interest in international work and a desire to build a long‑term career with the firm.
Languages
Excellent written and spoken English is essential.
Employment, Compliance & Remote Setup (Philippines)
You will be formally employed through an employer‑of‑record partner in the Philippines, who will:
Issue Philippine‑compliant employment contracts.
Process payroll and issue payslips.
Handle withholding taxes and statutory contributions in accordance with Philippine law.
You will work fully remotely from the Philippines, connecting securely to our systems via a server and remote IT setup (details to be agreed during onboarding).
Long‑Term Opportunity
We are looking for people who want to grow with us over the long term. Our typical employment relationships last 7 years or more, and we invest heavily in training, support and progression. The right candidates will have the opportunity to develop their technical and professional skills, take on increasing responsibility over time, and build a stable, long‑term career within the firm. For the right, high‑performing team members, there may also be the opportunity, after a sustained period with us (for example from 3 years onwards), to be considered for sponsorship to relocate and work in the UK, subject to performance, business needs and applicable immigration rules at that time.
What We Offer
A supportive, close‑knit team environment with direct access to senior staff in London.
The opportunity to shadow a Senior Accountant and gain exposure to complex international work from an early stage.
A structured training pathway, including support for relevant professional development (for example: UK technical training and, where appropriate, coordination with your existing qualifications).
Ongoing coaching to develop your technical skills, communication and professional confidence.
Genuine career progression opportunities as the firm continues to grow.
Exposure to a diverse range of clients and industries, including cross‑border work.
A stable, long‑term working relationship where you can focus comfortably on your role from Monday to Friday, with training, bonuses, incentives and salary reviews linked to your performance, competence, attitude and skills.
